* Western Chances Siemens Science Experience - Tue 2 Dec - Thur 4 Dec, 2008

The Siemens Science Experience is three days of hands-on science in universities for Year 9 students, entering Year 10 in 2009.
Run in association with Victoria University for Western Chances, twelve schools have the chance to send a group of students and their teacher to the three day event. This year's theme is "Reach for Enlightenment. Here's jsut a taste of this year's activities:
* "We won't be needing swords gentlemen...I give you...the cannon?"

Constuct a device that can shoot a ping pong ball the furthest distance. Ingenuity is a must.
* Prince Gallium and the Nickle Manifest

Come face to face with the nanoworld and construct some ultra cool nano particles that react along magnetic fields. Following this, make a ferrofluid or some thermofluids.

* Screening of Digital Storytelling workshop at ACMI on 17 November
|
Western Chances are pleased to be hosting our annual screening of the digital stories produced by then ten young people who attended this year's ACMI run workshops. The event will be held at ACMI at 6.30pm on Monday 17 November.

* Sir Rod Eddington speaks at 5th Western Chances BSN event - 30 October 2008

Western Chances were pleased to host Sir Rod Eddington as our guest speaker at the Business Supporter Network (BSN) event on Thursday 30 October, to be held at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne.
Sir Rod Eddington's topic was "Transport and Melbourne's West". The event raised over $6,000 for Western Chances. Special thanks to our gold sponsor, Westpac.

* Yarraville Club to host fundraising fashion parade for Western Chances
|
The hundred year old Yarraville Club has undergone extensive renovations, with a week of "Grand Opening" celebrations in early October, 2008.
On Monday 6th October they staged a Mum's Monday Fashion Parade, with proceeds from the event being donated to Western Chances. More than $600 was raised for Western Chances.
Local retailers supported the event, held from 12pm-3pm. For more information on the Yarraville Club on 9689 6033.

* Julia Gillard speaks of role for business in supporting the West's youth

Western Chances awere honoured to have The HON Julia Gillard MP as the guest speaker at the Business Supporter Network (BSN) event on Thursday 21 August, 2008. Over 150 business people heard more about the Federal Government's vision for education - and the role for business in supporting the work of Western Chances.
KPMG were the generous sponsor for this event.
