Western Chances | The Team

Rhyll Dorrington

Chief Executive Officer

Rhyll brings a broad range of experience to Western Chances having worked in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, and as a volunteer mentor to students.

Rhyll began her career at Variety, the Children’s Charity. She has also worked with a Member of the Victorian Parliament.

Rhyll spent ten years working in London, in a variety of roles including with the Financial Times and the London Borough of Southwark where she managed a large corporate employee volunteering program. This highly successful program involved brokering partnerships between large corporations and state primary and secondary schools.

Rhyll is focused on maintaining and building on Western Chances’ strong partnership base and striving to make the organisation a household name in Melbourne.

Betty Klonaris

Administration Manager

Betty has worked in various administration roles since 1991. Before joining Western Chances, Betty worked in a large medical practice for eight years as a Medical Secretary, where she managed the day to day running of the surgery, as well as preparing medico-legal reports.

Betty took time out of the work force to raise her son, and joined Western Chances in February 2006 when she took on the role of Administration Officer working only a few hours a week. Betty is now the Administration Manager and oversees a wide range of administrative duties in the areas of scholarships, programs, finance and communication between the schools, nominators and the recipient’s family.

Betty will be leaving Western Chances for a short break in mid November 2009, on maternity leave, but will join us again in 2011.

Betty lives in the Western Suburbs and has one child (and one on the way).

Mary Perese

Administration Manager

Mary Perese has been appointed to take over Betty Klonaris' position for 12 months whilst Betty is on maternity leave.

Mary has recently arrived in Australia from New Zealand where she worked for 8 years in the Tertiary Education sector within the Department of Student Support at Manukau Institute of Technology, Auckland. Mary’s various roles included being a student mentor as well as developing support programs and events to assist Maori and Pasifika students to reach their academic goals. In November 2008, she moved to the Department of Schools and Community to manage the administration of its scholarships program. Mary has a strong passion to encourage and help others reach their goals.

Mary is a great addition to the Western Chances team. We wish her a warm welcome and we hope that Betty has a wonderful year off work!"

Samantha Schwarz

Links Programs Manager

After two years as a volunteer member of the Western Chances Programs sub-committee, Samantha has made the transition to LINKS Program Manager.

Samantha’s background spans industries including banking and finance, real estate and human resources. After having time off to raise a family, Samantha has returned to the workforce keen to further develop the LINKS Program, continuing its success as a worthwhile experience for both employers and students.

Samantha lives in the Western Suburbs and has three children.

Sarah Vincent

Scholarships and Programs Manager

Sarah has over ten years experience working at RMIT and Monash universities in alumni and fundraising as well as scholarship development and event and database management.

Sarah is also a professional writer and graduate of the VCA Drama School. She has had plays performed all over Australia as well as in Athens and at the Edinburgh Festival. Her knowledge of the arts industry and understanding of the time and effort required to pursue an artistic career will assist her greatly in this role.

Sarah lives in the Western Suburbs and has two children.
