Western Chances partners with a number of universities and College’s to provide opportunities for Western Chances recipients to access laptops and scholarships, including College residential (living on campus) and non-residential scholarships. A College scholarship is when a financial award is provided to a deserving student to support their educational pursuits.

The Dafydd Lewis Trust & Mary Jane Lewis Foundation Scholarships

The Daffyd Lewis Trust (DLT) and Mary Jane Lewis Foundation (MJL) Scholarships are equity and merit-based scholarships available respectively to young men and women entering their first year of university. Western Chances identifies candidates for the DLT and MJL scholarships, supports their applications and advocates on their behalf. Scholarships are awarded for 3 years and are valued at $10,000 per annum.

You are eligible to apply if you come from a low socioeconomic background, are planning to study a full-time undergraduate degree at any university and have attended a Victorian State Secondary School for the last five consecutive years

Narrm Scholarship Program - Melb Uni

This new scholarship should be considered by all Western Chances scholarship recipients moving to undergraduate studies at Melbourne University. The scholarship provides a living allowance of $6,500 per year for up to 4 years along with access to a transition program.

You are eligible for a Naarm Scholarship if you come from a low socioeconomic background, you or your parent/guardian receive a means tested Commonwealth support payment OR you are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (please note you do NOT need to be Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander to apply).

To apply you must submit a Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) Application> Complete the Access Melbourne Application> Preference Melbourne University accordingly in VTAC.

 

Hansen Scholarship

The Hansen Scholarship is a flagship scholarship program at The University of Melbourne to recognise high achieving students from around Australia who have demonstrated resilience to adversity, and a commitment to supporting others.

  • If you are in year 12 this year and planning to study at The University of Melbourne.

  • Students must be a domestic student studying an undergraduate course.

  • Scholarships of up to $108,000 over one to three years cover accommodation, an allowance, and financial and personal support.

Applications are now open and close on 31 March 2025.


Janet Clarke Hall College Scholarships

Janet Clarke Hall offers residential scholarships to young people.

  • Students must be enrolled at The University of Melbourne, Monash University (Pharmacy) or RMIT

  • 1st year full time students and postgraduate students are eligible to apply

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic merit and community service

  • The cost of a full residential place is $38,000 per year, with major scholarships offered of between $5,000 and $25,000 per year

  • Residential scholarships cover furnished room, all meals, academic tutorials, mentoring & social activities, UoM sports membership

Applications are now open and close in April 2025 but are encouraged to be submitted prior to the end of the November

  • Applications are to be submitted via the UniMelb Intercollegiate portal with Janet Clarke Hall selected as ‘Preference 1’

  • College tours are held every Tuesday & Friday at 11.30am. Bookings essential.

 

Mannix College Scholarships

Mannix College offers residential scholarships to young people.

  • Students must be enrolled at Monash University

  • All full-time students in any year level studying an on-campus degree at Bachelor level or higher are eligible to apply

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic merit & community service

  • The cost of a full residential place is $26,253 per year, with major scholarships offered of between $5,000 and $10,000 per year

  • Residential scholarships cover full accommodation, meals & utilities, access to academic tutorials, study & wellbeing support

Applications open on August and close in November

  • You can apply to Mannix College before you receive an offer to study at Monash University

  • Open day August. Various College tour dates are available upon request

 

Newman College Scholarships

Newman College offers residential scholarships to young people.

  • Students must be enrolled at The University of Melbourne, Monash University (Pharmacy), RMIT or ACU

  • 1st year full time students and postgraduate students are eligible to apply. Newman will discuss opportunities for other year levels to apply upon request

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic merit, good character and community service

  • The full cost of a residential place is $29,310 per year, with major scholarships offered of between $5,000 and $15,000 per year

  • Residential scholarships cover full accommodation, meals & utilities, access to cultural & sporting opportunities including academic tutorials

Applications open March and close December

 

Ormond College Scholarships

Ormond College offers residential and non-residential scholarships to young people.

  • Students must be applying to study or enrolled to study at The University of Melbourne

  • 1st year and 2nd year undergraduate students are eligible to apply

  • Scholarships are awarded based on financial need for the three years of an undergraduate degree

  • The full cost of a residential place is $42,276 per year and a non-residential place $10,797 per year

  • Financial assistance scholarships of between $10,000 and $25,000 are available per year for residential students and the full cost of $10,797 for non-residential students

  • Residential financial assistance scholarships cover accommodation, all meals and all College tutoring & mentoring programs

  • Non-residential financial assistance scholarships cover 5 meals per week and all College tutoring & mentoring programs

Applications open in April each year

 

Trinity College Scholarships

Trinity College offers residential scholarships to young people.

  • Students must be enrolled at The University of Melbourne

  • 1st year and 2nd year undergraduate students are eligible to apply

  • Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit & potential, extra-curricular activities & community engagement

  • The full cost of a residential place is $38,400 per year, with major scholarships offered of between $5,000 and $38,000 per year

  • Residential scholarships cover accommodation, all meals, up to full residential College fees, academic tutorials, mentoring & social activities

Scholarship applications open April and close in October

  • Applications are to be submitted via the UniMelb Intercollegiate portal with Trinity College selected as ‘Preference 1’

Victoria University - Access Scholarships

Western Chances recipients who attend Victoria University are offered the $1,000 Access Scholarship for up to four years of study. Western Chances recipients do not need to go through the formal application process, they automatically qualify. 35 scholarships are available each year.

Deakin University - Western Chances Scholarship

Western Chances recipients entering their first year of study at Deakin University are eligible to apply for the Deakin Western Chances Scholarship valued at up to $4,000 for their first year of study.

Applications open January - March of each year

 

RMIT Equity Notebook Grant

Through the RMIT Equity Notebook Grant, Western Chances nominates up to ten recipients who are enrolled in first year full time study to receive a free laptop valued at $1,000.

Contact the Western Chances Programs team if you would like to apply for a laptop grant for your first year of study at RMIT.
