An announcement from our Founding Chair Terry Bracks – CEO Departure

Zac Lewis to step down as CEO of Western Chances

After four years leading Western Chances, CEO, Zac Lewis, has announced that he will be leaving the organisation, to pursue a new opportunity closer to home.

Zac has guided our organisation with exceptional strategic insight and steadfast commitment. His outstanding leadership has not only propelled our mission forward but also fostered a dedicated and talented team, equally committed to improving the lives of young people in Melbourne’s west.

Zac has overseen enormous growth in our scholarship program, our expansion into Geelong with Geelong Chances, and the development of our successful internship program, significantly expanding our reach and impact.

The Board of Western Chances extends our thanks to Zac for his hard work, passion, and dedication to supporting young people to fulfil their potential in Melbourne’s mighty western suburbs. While he will be greatly missed, Zac leaves Western Chances in a strong financial, operational, and strategic position.

Some highlights of Zac’s time as CEO of Western Chances include:

  • Doubled our annual budget and forged new partnerships and funding opportunities.

  • Developed and launched our successful Internship program, a growing social enterprise.

  • Nearly doubled the number of young people empowered through scholarships.

  • Successfully funded and launched the Geelong Chances Pilot Program.

  • Oversaw two office relocations and forged a new major alliance with Victoria University to house the Western Chances team into the future.

  • Nurtured a high-performing team, including the establishment of a strong Leadership Team, who will help lead the organisation through its next phase.

As Founding Chair, I would like to take this opportunity to express how much I have valued Zac’s strategic vision and long-term outlook on guiding the work of Western Chances, he is highly respected by all our stakeholders and partners.

In the coming weeks, we will begin the recruitment process to find the best person to step into this exciting role. It's an opportunity to lead an organisation that is in excellent health and continues to make a significant impact on the lives of young people in Melbourne’s west.

We wish Zac the very best in his new role and know that he will always have a strong connection and affinity for Western Chances.
