Jenny

Jenny is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) /Bachelor of Commerce at Monash University. She has undertaken two internships under the Western Chances Internship Program.

With four of us born within four years, money has always been tight at home. So I’ve always worked part time, in typical teenage jobs like hospitality and retail. I didn’t know anything about working in a corporate environment, let alone a legal one.

The internships have taught me so much. As a support administrator at the Western Health Foundation, I learned a lot about what’s required in successful fundraising in an office, like maintaining strong corporate partnerships and improving donor engagement, professional communications and email etiquette.

Now I’m undertaking a part-time legal internship. Law is incredibly competitive and I’m gaining invaluable hands-on experience, which not many students can do. I’m studying law because I want to advocate for and help people through difficult times,  who are disadvantaged. In the future I’d like to work in human rights law.

The internships open doors to life-changing opportunities not normally available to young people like me from disadvantaged backgrounds. I’m incredibly grateful to Western Chances and very thankful.
